Farmhouse Weathervanes

Good to know before you buy

Farmhouse weather vanes are our largest: full-size, handcrafted copper designs by Good Directions, made to be seen from the road. Most stand about 75cm to 1.25m tall, which suits a house roof, a barn, a stable block or a cupola.

Sizes

They run from about 76cm for the Flying Duck to 1.24m for the Stag and the Deer. Each product page gives the exact height and width.

How they’re made

The figure and spacer balls are formed from copper and brazed together by hand, and the weather vane turns on a brass pivot. The N, S, E and W points are cast brass, and the powder-coated steel rod can be extended for extra height. The verdigris Arrow is the exception: it’s aluminium with a verdigris-effect finish.

Polished copper or verdigris

Polished copper softens to a warm brown, then over the years to green verdigris. A clear lacquer slows it down. If you’d like the aged look straight away, we suggest a verdigris-effect finish. The Bantam Rooster also comes in an antique bronze finish with a bright red plume.

Fitting

A 125mm wall bracket comes in the box and suits most walls and fascias. For deep eaves or gutters there’s a 300mm bracket. For a pitched roof we suggest the roof ridge mount, and for the peak of a hip roof the four-sided hip roof mount. To stand one in a paddock or lawn, the garden pole holds it about 120cm above the ground.

Compass letters in other languages

As well as N, S, E and W, we can supply compass points lettered for France, Italy, Spain, Germany and the Netherlands at no extra cost. Give us a call when you order and we’ll swap them for you.

Farmhouse or Cottage?

Farmhouse weather vanes suit houses, barns and larger buildings. For a garage, shed or summerhouse, we suggest a small Cottage copper weather vane, which is in better proportion.

Is delivery free?

Yes. Every Farmhouse weather vane is over £50, so delivery to the UK mainland is free (excluding the Highlands and islands).
