Cottage Weathervanes
Good to know before you buy
Cottage weather vanes are handcrafted copper weathervanes, most of them by Good Directions, sized for smaller buildings. At about 40 to 70cm tall, they look right on a garage, summerhouse, gazebo or bungalow, where a large weather vane would overpower the roof.
How they’re made
The Good Directions designs are formed from copper and brazed together by hand. They have copper spacer balls, cast brass N, S, E and W points and a powder-coated steel rod. You may see the joins. They’re the mark of something made by hand, not a fault.
Polished copper or verdigris
Polished copper starts bright, softens to a warm brown and, over the years, turns the green of an old church roof. A clear lacquer slows that down if you’d like to keep the shine. For the aged look from the start, we suggest the verdigris-effect finish.
Fitting
A 125mm wall bracket comes in the box and suits most walls and fascias. For a shed roof there’s a roof ridge mount, and for the top of a post a post bracket. The garden pole stands about 110cm above a lawn or border.
Cottage or Farmhouse?
Cottage suits garages, outbuildings and bungalows. For a two-storey house or a barn, we suggest a large Farmhouse copper weather vane, which is easier to see from the road.
Is delivery free?
Yes. Every Cottage weather vane is over £50, so delivery to the UK mainland is free (excluding the Highlands and islands).
