How to Stay Healthy While Sports-Training in Cold Weather
Cold weather brings on a completely different set of situations, mostly hazardous if the person is not prepared. In sports, athletes are trained in order to be physically fit and ready, regardless of the weather. With safety precautions, one can run or jog during a training period even in the cold. Dressing warmly and protecting the exposed skin wherever possible is very important to prevent breathing problems and frostbite.
For runners and riders, an extra scarf or a handkerchief to cover the nose and mouth is enough to bring the athletes back home safe and sound. Taking lots of liquids is also helpful as the body will sweat a bit more because it may be wrapped in more clothing. Even in winter, a supply of water should be taken along for the necessity of staying hydrated. For those who have breathing problems or bronchial irritations due to cold air, it is best to stay inside the training grounds until the condition improves.
All in all, wearing layers of clothes is the best answer for cold weather as it gives athletes the option to shed a layer if it becomes too warm for them. Moreover, a hat and a pair of thick socks should be worn as well. Sports enthusiasts are also encouraged to wear trail shoes because they have a different sole design compared to other running and riding shoes.
